Learn the basic subject–object–verb pattern and how Korean can omit an understood subject.

Subject–object–verb

A useful starting pattern is subject–object–verb: who, what, then the action. In 저는 밥을 먹어요, 저는 sets up 'I' as the topic, 밥을 is 'rice' as the object, and 먹어요 is 'eat'. Korean particles help show these roles.

저는 밥을 먹어요.

jeoneun babeul meogeoyo. — I eat rice.
