Introduce the topic particles 은/는 and the subject particles 이/가 with their selection rules.

은/는 marks a topic or contrast

은/는 marks a topic or a contrast: what we are talking about. Use 은 after a consonant-ending noun and 는 after a vowel-ending noun: 학생은, 저는. Topic is not simply another name for subject.

저는 학생이에요.

jeoneun haksaeng-ieyo. — I am a student.
