Three positions. One block.
Choose a starting consonant, a vowel, and an optional final consonant. The letters fit together inside one syllable block.
The final position allows 27 endings, including 11 two-letter clusters. ㄸ, ㅃ, and ㅉ cannot be finals. A legal written block is not necessarily a real Korean word, and its pronunciation can change in context.
